I know that a few people out there don't like this off topic
subject. So don't read this.
I'm aware that we have some military involved in letterboxing
and I don't know where to go to get an answer to this question. Why
is the flag backwards on the sleeves of the uniforms? I've noticed
this during the briefings and can't make sense out of it.
I always thought the field of blue should always be displayed
so that it was top left. I've been known to go and fix flags
displayed incorrectly. Just one of my pet peeves.
Please email me off-list with an answer if you have one.
Thanks in advance, Psychomommy

I know the answer!! The flag on the left sleeve is the traditional
way, with the stars on the left. The "backwards" flag is on the right
sleeve, with the stars on the right. Imagine the flag on the
sleeves as flags being carried into battle. The stars are forward.
If the flag on the right sleeve were the traditional upper left, the
person would be retreating from battle.

Ha, I didn't know that. But I did notice, a while back, that in the TV
show M*A*S*H that the flags were also displayed sideways. I've found
patches like that, and always presumed they were meant to be worn
veritcally.
Learn somethin' new.....
Thanks,
